Mahjiku › Questions › Hong Kong mahjong faan chart explained: what each tier pays
For the table game: four players, real tiles, Hong Kong style — not the solitaire puzzle.
A faan chart prices each hand; the table then pays on the hand's total — base plus every line — not on any single line. On Mahjiku's default sheet the total is the payment: a 3-faan hand moves 3 from the player who threw the winning tile, or 9 in all on a self-draw. Tables on a doubling curve pay far more at the top.
The sheet below has 15 price points. Read it as building blocks: small bonuses at the bottom that stack onto any win, patterns in the middle, and the great hands at the top. A hand pays on the sum of everything it earns.
One row per hand total, from the default sheet's minimum up. Thrower is what the player who discarded the winning tile hands over; self-draw is what the winner collects in all when every opponent pays. The two doubling sheets cap at 10 faan, so their figures stop climbing there.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 | 3 | 9 | 16 | 24 | 16 | 24 |
| 4 | 4 | 12 | 32 | 48 | 32 | 48 |
| 5 | 5 | 15 | 48 | 72 | 64 | 96 |
| 6 | 6 | 18 | 64 | 96 | 128 | 192 |
| 7 | 7 | 21 | 96 | 144 | 256 | 384 |
| 8 | 8 | 24 | 128 | 192 | 512 | 768 |
| 9 | 9 | 27 | 192 | 288 | 1024 | 1536 |
| 10 | 10 | 30 | 256 | 384 | 2048 | 3072 |
| 11 | 11 | 33 | 256 | 384 | 2048 | 3072 |
| 12 | 12 | 36 | 256 | 384 | 2048 | 3072 |
| 13 | 13 | 39 | 256 | 384 | 2048 | 3072 |
Two things to notice. On the doubling sheets the thrower pays double (出銃加倍), which is why their discard column is not one payment. And the default sheet never stops climbing, because it ships with no cap — see limit hands.
The conversion curves on their own are on the faan-to-points chart, and the half and full spicy curves are compared here.
