Base (底 · Dai) is a Hong Kong mahjong scoring bonus: Every winning hand starts with one point, just for winning. It is always there — nothing to do. It is worth 1 faan in Mahjiku's default sheet and it is the whole of a win that names nothing else, which is why a table minimum of 3 faan really asks for 2 faan of actual pattern on top. Payment follows the hand's whole faan total, not this line alone: under Mahjiku's default additive model the total is what each payer hands over — all three opponents on a self-draw (自摸), the discarder alone on a discard win (點炮). Faan values are a table's own call; this is Mahjiku's shipped default, editable in House Rules.

The base is 1 faan, and it is the whole of a win that names nothing else — which is why the table minimum matters: 3 faan is the floor, so a hand needs 2 faan of actual pattern on top of the base before it is a win at all.

What 1 faan actually pays

Faan is not the score by itself — it is the number the table turns into points, and Hong Kong tables do that two different ways. Both are shipped in Mahjiku; the additive model is the default.

Self-draw: all three opponents pay. Discard: only the player who threw the tile pays. Both columns are the winner's gain, straight out of the app's settlement function.

Worth knowing. Under a doubling table a hand below the 3 faan minimum pays nothing at all — the zeros above are the engine's minimum-faan gate, not a rounding artefact.

The base is the one faan every win opens with, before a single pattern is named. It is why the smallest possible winning total is not zero, and why a table minimum of 3 faan really means "two faan of actual hand".
