A non-dealer wins on the dealer’s very first discard of the game.
How to spot it. When it happens: you win on the game’s first discard.
Every win starts at 1 faan for the base, so a hand whose only named line is Earthly Hand is worth 1 + 27 = 28 faan. Anything else the hand happens to be — a flush, a triplet shape, a dragon set — stacks on top of that.
Faan is not the score by itself — it is the number the table turns into points, and Hong Kong tables do that two different ways. Both are shipped in Mahjiku; the additive model is the default.
| Payout model | One payer owes | Self-draw 自摸 | Discard 點炮 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Additivefaan is the payout | 28 | +84 | +28 |
| 半辣上half spicy | 384 | +1152 | +384 |
| 全辣上full spicy | 8192 | +24576 | +8192 |
Self-draw: all three opponents pay. Discard: only the player who threw the tile pays. Both columns are the winner's gain, straight out of the app's settlement function.
Worth knowing. Both doubling tables stop at 13 faan, so this 28-faan hand is paid at the 13-faan row — 384 points under 半辣上 and 8192 under 全辣上. Everything above 13 faan pays the same. The additive model has no ceiling, so there the extra faan still count.
Earthly Hand has no detector in the engine yet — it is a moment at the table rather than a shape in the tiles, so a table adds its faan by hand. The calculator totals up everything else in the hand.
