How to spot it. Four of the exact same tile, laid down together.
A kong of 1-characters inside an otherwise ordinary hand. Note the hand is 15 tiles long, not 14 — a kong sets a fourth tile aside, and that extra tile is how the engine knows a kong was declared at all.
Passed to Mahjiku's scoring engine (won on a discard, with sets claimed from the table, seat wind South, round wind West), that hand comes back as:

Faan is not the score by itself — it is the number the table turns into points, and Hong Kong tables do that two different ways. Both are shipped in Mahjiku; the additive model is the default.

Self-draw: all three opponents pay. Discard: only the player who threw the tile pays. Both columns are the winner's gain, straight out of the app's settlement function.
