Mahjiku › Where to play
For the table game: four players, real tiles, Hong Kong style — not the solitaire puzzle.
Hong Kong-style mahjong is played in clubs, classes and social nights across the diaspora: in 10 cities we list 34 places to play Hong Kong-style or mixed mahjong, 21 places where mahjong is played (style not stated) and 3 Singapore-variant places, each one checked against its own page or a published listing, with the house rules it publishes. Hong Kong style leads the listings, with at least three Hong Kong-style places and more of them than places that don't say, in London, Vancouver, San Francisco Bay Area, Sydney, Toronto, New York and Hong Kong. Also covered: Melbourne (2 Hong Kong-style, 4 style not stated), Singapore (5 style not stated, 3 Singapore-variant) and Kuala Lumpur (3 style not stated). In Hong Kong itself the way in for an English speaker is classes and expat clubs; Singapore plays its own variant; Kuala Lumpur's English-language scene is small.
