Different tables need different tools. This page sets Mahjiku beside four apps people also consider, using what each app's own listing states — and says plainly when one of them is the better choice for you.
Made by the Mahjiku team. This is our comparison, not an independent review or hands-on test of competitors. Competitor details below are attributed to their own linked listings and websites. “Not stated” means we found no claim in those sources, not that a feature is impossible. Prices refer to the US listings where quoted and can change by region or plan.
Mahjiku features were checked against the recorded 1.0.9 release with its 9 October 2026 app update, alongside the public store descriptions. Older installations may differ. We do not treat unreleased development features as available.

| What to compare | Mahjiku | Bam Good Time / Mahjic | Mahjong Tracker | Mahjong Helper & Calculator | Mahjong Camera |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rules and scoring | Hong Kong house-rule scoring; Riichi scoring also exists in the released app | American mahjong club and league scoring | Riichi; publisher specifies EMA Competition Rules, 2016 edition | European Classical, Hong Kong, Japanese Modern / EMF Riichi, Chinese Official | Riichi, Hong Kong, Taiwanese and HK-style Taiwanese |
| Shared table | Guests join by code and follow the live board | Event check-in, scoring and league standings; live guest table view not established here | Publisher describes real-time scores and server-saved game logs | Shared matches across devices; data connection required | HK and Riichi scoreboards listed; cross-device guest watching not stated |
| Rules and learning | Editable HK hand values and settlement; named patterns and tile examples. The catalog differs by sheet, so there is no fixed “42 hands” claim | Portable American-mahjong rating through Mahjic; configurable faan editor not stated | Kiriage Mangan setting mentioned in release notes; a general rules editor is not stated | Scoring explanations and rule choices, including HK All Pungs / Half Flush settings | HK-style Taiwanese profiles with adjustable faan items, values and rules |
| Camera tile recognition | Unavailable in this release; manual score or tile entry. Photos for story cards do not read tiles | Not stated | Not stated | Listing describes tile/set selection; camera recognition not stated | Scanning winning tiles is a listed feature; accuracy not tested here |

| Platforms checked | iPhone and Android | Website links iOS, Mac and Android apps | Android app and web account; website still invites iOS release notifications | App Store listing for iPhone and iPad | Designed for iPhone; other-device compatibility is not a native-platform promise |
| Cost and limits | Free download with a host-table allowance; Superhost subscription unlocks unlimited scoring tables. Check your in-app allowance and local offer | Free download/start; paid club plans listed. Verify the current organiser plan | Google Play offers installation without an upfront price; no quota inferred | US App Store: $0.99 | Free download with in-app purchases; no free scanning quota inferred |
Choose it for a live home-table scoreboard, named HK patterns, editable house rules and shareable recaps. Riichi and Liga are also in the recorded release; it is inaccurate to call the app HK-only or say it has no league tools. The free hosting allowance is not unlimited: the recorded offer is an initial bank of eight tables, then two per calendar month. Your current allowance and subscription price are shown in the app and may change. Sources: App Store and Google Play.
Consider it for American mahjong club administration and events. Bam Good Time’s listing describes registration, rosters and leagues; its website links the supported apps. Mahjic describes the associated portable rating system. Club software and a cross-club rating are different services, so check their respective terms.
Consider it for EMA-style riichi tracking and reviewing game history in a web account. Sources: Google Play and the publisher’s website. The 2016 rules reference is the publisher’s claim, not our certification against a newer competition standard.
Consider it for the listed scoring systems, two-, three- or four-player modes, or AirPrint score sheets. Its App Store listing is the source for these features and the quoted US price. We have not tested its rule calculations.
Consider it for camera-assisted tile input or Taiwanese scoring. Its App Store listing and release notes describe those styles, scoreboards and profile sharing. A listing is not evidence of recognition accuracy or an unlimited free allowance; check the current in-app offer.
